Tonight on OutCast: Miro Quartet violist, John Largess. Plus, Rich Segal for Softball Austin.


John Largess plays viola in the Miro Quartet, one of America's most high-profile chamber music groups. They also happen to be the Faculty String Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Texas at Austin.

Since 1995, the Miro Quartet has been captivating audiences around the globe, including Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, and New York, where they have been featured at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

Violist John Largess began his studies in Boston at age 12. In 1995, he was graduated from Yale with a degree in archaeology. John currently serves as Senior Lecturer and Chair of Chamber Music at the University of Texas at Austin School of Music.

On February 5th at 8:00 p.m., the Miro Quartet will be performing a Mendelssohn 200th Anniversary Concert at the Bates Recital Hall on the University of Texas campus.

Stuart Moulton founded Austin Cabaret Theatre in 2001, and since then has put Austin on the circuit for cabaret theatre performers who might never have considered performing here. From Eartha Kitt, Carol Channing, and Elaine Stritch....Stuart dishes on his favorite divas.

Next at ACT, Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch grace the stage January 29-30 with Jim Caruso's Cast Party. This crazy, no-holds-barred evening of entertainment will feature the wildly talented Jim & Billy, as well as some of Austin's best crooners, belters, and entertainment oddities! The Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival, or aGLIFF, is teaming up with Austin Video Bee to present the upcoming screening of CHANNELING: An Invocation of Spectral Bodies & Queer Spirits. Joining us in the studio are Grace Gonzales and Ivan Lozano.



CHANNELING will be screened Saturday, January 24th at 8:30pm at the Hideout Theatre at 617 Congress Avenue.

Tonight on OutCast: actor/playwright Alex Garza, plus David Smith and Andy Wisner from the Hill Country Ride for AIDS.


Austin actor/playwright Alex Garza is back with us. He dares us to "taste the rainbow" in a couple of one-man shows running in this year's FronteraFest. We chat with Alex about the creative process, plus hear a live excerpt from his tale of life, love and politics from a decidedly queer perspective.

David Smith has been making a difference in Austin for years. In 1995, has was hired as the first executive director of Interfaith Care Alliance (now, The Care Communities) where he was involved in creating the Hill Country Ride for AIDS. In 2001, he became executive director for the Ride. The Hill Country Ride is an annual event which has raised over $3 million dollars for a group of the leading community non-profits that collectively support thousands of Central Texans living with HIV/AIDS. David is joined by Andy Wisner, a 7-year veteran rider, and a 6-year veteran of the Ride production team.

Sabrina is featured in the documentary film, Trinidad, which screened tonight at the Alamo Ritz. Sabrina discusses a number of matters with us, including her strong Catholic faith, founding the Southern Comfort Conference, and why her kids still call her "dad".
